A Natural Alternative To Painkillers

The Price of Convenience

In 2016 the painkiller industry has become a $300-billion-dollar money market. And this is no surprise, seeing as it is a quick relief for some of life's minor ailments. From headaches to sprained ankles over the counter painkillers are used in the millions every day. But this doesn’t come with its proper drawbacks. The use of these painkillers such as ibuprofen have always been backed by the comfort that they aren’t harmful, but new studies say otherwise.

Underlying Problem

Treating everything from arthritis from headaches, the newest class of over the counter painkiller, COX-2 inhibitors, are actually risky for the heart and those with heart conditions. This is leading to these drugs being taken off the market in regards to some, and FDA warnings on all others.

A recent study shows that researchers have detailed the risks associated with painkillers known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs. COX-2 inhibitor drugs belong in the NSAID class but are marketed as being more pain relieving than anti-inflammatory. They are also said to avoid any intestinal bleed problems that are often linked to NSAIDs. But now we are seeing they can cause serious heart and cardiovascular risks. In a study that included data from 10 million users of NSAIDs from the greater part of Europe, it has been found that 19% of these users (almost 1 in 5 people) have a higher risk of being hospitalized due to heart failure. And also corresponding to the link of heart issues and NSAID drugs, shows the higher the dose of the NSAID and frequency of use increases the risk of hospitalization. Seven drugs in themselves show even more potency to lead to these problems, including:

  • Ibuprofen
  • Naproxen
  • Diclofenac
  • Indomethacin
  • Ketorolac
  • Nimesulide
  • Piroxicam

This is no new discovery with painkillers. It has been known that use of painkillers can cause these heart failure risks, but not with NSAIDs and COX-2 inhibitors, which have been thought to be safe. The reason this causes risks is because they change the way the kidney operates and alter salt metabolism, increasing the risk for heart complications; especially in those with an already high risk. Even those with no family history or individual history increase their risk of heart failure with the use of NSAIDs.

These studies simply looked at correlations between NSAID use and heart issues, so the findings don’t imply that these painkillers will cause heart failure. It is now being said that doctors should explain to their patients the risks involved in taking these medications.

A Natural Alternative

New studies have shown however that there are multitudes of natural medications to help with these problems. In particular, Magnesium Supplementation can aid in preventing almost all symptoms that people use over the counter painkillers. Headaches, swelling, inflammation, achy joints, and arthritis can all be relieved with the use of this vital mineral.

Magnesium is a “super mineral” that has been farmed out of our soil due to over production, and the processing of our foods. It is responsible for over 300 different enzyme reactions in the body and plays a central part in cardiovascular function as well as neural synapse reaction and cell development. Simple supplementation of Magnesium can help cure many everyday issues, and Magnesium deficiency may be the very reason why someone might be experiencing these problems, to begin with.

Doctors recommend Transdermal Application of Magnesium. This usually comes in oils, creams, and salt baths. Oral administration of Magnesium is less advised due to the low absorption rate and the unwanted side effects like “leaky bowel syndrome”. Transdermal application is an all-natural simple way to increase magnesium levels at high absorption levels with no side effects other than possible allergic reactions.

This could be a possible way to help subside your pain or even cure it for good without any harmful side effects such as increased heart risks. It’s as simple as rubbing your feet or hands with a lotion every day to increase the Magnesium mineral count in your bloodstream.
